Session break:Necessity or luxury

Most of the schools have commenced with the new session and the children and the teaching staff must have set some new goals for themselves.  The children got some time to relax and refresh in between the final examination and the new session. We tried to find from the students and some teachers about the excitement and the enthusiasm for the next class and the session. The response was mixed. But the majority of the students and the teachers felt that the gap between the two sessions should be more than what it is presently. Some state boards conduct the final examination in the most of April or May and then the schools are closed and the new session starts in the month of July every year. The teachers are able to complete their evaluation work properly and then the schools declare the result. Many children want this system to be adopted by all boards. The reason mentioned for this is that they get enough time to relax and get ready for the next class. They feel that the childr...

Developing multiple intelligences

Man from time immemorial has been looking for more success for self and the society. Though success can be defined in different ways and it has different meaning for different people but, one simple way of understanding success is to look at what one wanted to achieve and how much part of the same has been achieved. This target can be set for an individual by the individual and also by the group of the people or an organization for the growth of the entire group of the people or the organization. Success is a relative aspect and it is difficult to see it in absolute terms. Till a few decades back we had an impression that to be successful in life it is very important to be intelligent. What I mean is that earlier IQ was considered to be the basic criteria for a person to be successful. The next factor considered was the experience of the person. But it was observed that though some people were equipped with high IQ and had enough experience working in an organization yet other people ...

Understand CCE better

The results of the school based examination of different schools have been declared. This I am writing in reference to the schools affiliated to central board of secondary education. By and large all schools are following the CCE pattern introduced by the board up to class X. The system has been in place for two years now and it is expected that all stake holders might have got a fairly good idea of the advantages of the new system of evaluation. There are discussions on social networking sites whether the CCE has been useful for the children and other stake holders? There are divergent views about the same. Some people are quite happy while others say opposite to that. Though we do not have access to any data which can suggest the validity of the new evaluation system and that is the reason most of the opinion is formed based on the input given by some people. I think we need to understand it better by assessing the same by using some reliable and valid method of survey. My personal v...

Compete with self and not with others

This has been said and followed by most of the people that competition is must for progress. This may be true in some cases but let us try to understand the meaning of the word- competition. This certainly means comparing the performance or the achievement of an individual with some other person or individual. By comparing, they try to be better than the other people. But does this competition help all the people in all situations? The nature promotes harmony and not competition, but man has used everything for the benefit of self and if I may say so, for his own enjoyment and self-satisfaction. The truth is that everything created and present in the nature has its own importance. This is very rightly explained by one of our great poets, “ jahan kaam aave sui, kaha kare talwar,” meaning thereby  that the task which can be completed by a tiny needle only, even the mighty sword would not be of any use in that case. It will be the needle only which might be of a great help. From this...

Be sensible and responsible for own actions

Among all the living beings on planet earth human being can think very fast and act accordingly and the result is that this group has evolved continuously. The nature has provided everything possible as per the requirement of all living beings including all of us. Man is also called a social animal  and the reason for the same might have been that we can live in a society in a better way than the other living beings. The progress and the developmental phases of the man in the last thousands of years have been phenomenal. The human race is proud of all the achievements and the progress made and the man continues doing the same. We evolved from isolation to group living and enjoyed the company of all around us including the family members. As the number of the people grew so was the desire of accumulating the things and the desire of possessing more than other groups. Initially, it was the group of the people who at least helped and cared for each other but slowly and steadily we ar...

Evolve educational ethics

Education is considered to be a major factor in the progress of a nation and the society. Education either formal or informal, prepares a person for facing the world in a manner that all live in peace and enjoy the life on this planet. The word education has been defined in different ways but the most accepted meaning seems to be the manifestation of the potential one has and exploring the world for the betterment of all human beings. Our country was considered to be the best in providing the education at school level and more so on college and university level. We cannot forget the reputation earned by Nalanda and many other such universities which attracted the people from all over the world. But the report published in the newspaper today reminds us of the current situation. No university of the country finds its place in top hundred universities of the world. It is a point of debate whether foreign universities have progressed so much or our university system has crumbled due to m...

Stress phobia

The students of class XII of CBSE shall write their examination from 01 March and that will be followed by the students of the other examination boards. The students must have worked hard all through the year and many of them are well prepared for the same. But as usual, there seems to be stress in all those families from which any child is appearing in the board examinations. This is quite natural also. This group of the children is the one which has been through the conventional method of assessment and evaluation. They have been through the same exercise right from the beginning of their student life. They have already taken one public examination when they were in class X. From this we can conclude that they are better prepared for facing an external examination. But still they and many of the family members have not been at ease for the time they have been in class XII. There have been debates and discussions on the topic of the stressful life of the children and the ill effect o...

Ideal Human being

I got an opportunity to attend a programme of a CD release in which people from different religions and professional background were present. My interest to attend the programme was the title of the CD. The people behind the production of the same are the ones who have been instrumental to work for the benefit of the society. They came up with such events and productions earier also and that made quite an impact on the mind of the people who happened to be the part of such events or were able to listen to the message conveyed through such cassettes and  CDs . The title of the CD was   Adarsh   Inssan   that is Ideal Human being. Though the message in the CD is from one particular religious book of a particular faith but it is for the entire human beings community. This is true that all the religions teach a man to be as ideal as possible and not just religious advocates. People can follow different beliefs and faiths but the central meaning and t...

Shaping our progeny

It was about three years back when a news report had shocked the entire nation. While discussing the same with teachers and parents we realized that this was anyway anticipated and nobody was really surprised by that. A few incidents of the recent past have brought the discussion live once again. The latest in the series was the method to which a student of high school resorted to, was really the cause of worry and concern for everyone. What I am referring to here is, the incidence of violence in our schools. We expected this to happen (because of the way our children are being brought up and treated at home and up to some extent in the schools) but not so early. In the race of copying the countries of the west we have been questioning our own family and educational system. Sometimes, it appears as if the real concern for the children is lost somewhere and what we speak and do is for the sake of ensuring the phenomenon of change and the concept of doing the things always in a different...

The real happiness

People work very hard to achieve greater height which is a very natural phenomenon and has been going on for the last so many years. The evolution is also a natural process but one of the most important things which remain constant is the change. We all know that change is inevitable and we have to go through that cycle whether we like it or not. Another thing which has remained constant for the human race is the search for the happiness. Though the reasons for happiness have been different for different people in different areas but the truth is that seeking happiness has been the desire of all races. Some people find happiness in doing some noble service for others and the humanity. In others cases, it may be earning and accumulating a lot of wealth and likewise. Some people find happiness in knowing the nature and trying to sustain that. But have we really attained the real happiness? Yes, there have been people who discovered happiness in the real sense and there are many of them l...
