Education for peace and prosperity

In the last few years, the country has seen an upsurge of the terrorist attacks which has created a panic in the minds of the citizens.Every time such incident takes place the government and other agencies promise to bring the perpetrator to the law court to yield justice. The newspapers and the TV channels make them the headlines for a few days before something else happens. And after a few days the incident is forgotten. The kind of political statements which follow such attacks do not make any sense to the public rather they get agitated by such remarks. The worst thing is that the government has not been able to identify the groups behind such attacks, leave aside the arrest of the people responsible for killing innocent citizens. Some children were discussing among themselves as to why does the government not take any strict action against such people? The students of the age group twelve to fifteen have started feeling strongly over these sensitive issues and the worst thing is that the reputation of the law enforcing agencies and the government has gone for a toss, in the process. The public has started feeling that the political class of the country does not have the will to curb such acts. The problem is that the citizens have shown a lot of patience but if the government and the other political parties do not take things seriously then the youth of the country may not tolerate the same for long. It should not be taken as the threat but the warning for the good of the country.
Respected members of parliament are very much worried about the respect, the public gives to them, but when it comes to their own conduct, people feel that a lot is wanted. The countrymen do not learn things in the classrooms and the schools only but also from what is being said and done by their leaders. Many people do ask a question- why could there be no terrorist attack in America after 9/11?One of the reasons for that is cited to be zero tolerance policy against such threats. The Americans did not worry about any criticism but the security of the people of America. Are we becoming soft targets because of laxity on the part of the government in the name of democracy?People who have lost their near and dear ones are questioning the human rights groups.Where are these groups when innocent people are being killed? Why the political parties are gaining mileage out of the death punishment to the most heinous crime of killing the young and iconic prime minister of the country? The youth of the the nation is fed up with so called human rights groups. Can there be any such group also which will ensure the duties too and not only the rights?
The education system in the country is going through a transitional phase. The teaching methodology and the assessment criterion has been reviewed and revamped. But no  serious efforts have been made to  change the curriculum in a manner which prepares our children not only to be able to earn livelihood(which seems to be the basic objective of the education as on today) but prepare them to fight these evils successfully.During a discussion somebody commented that when the people responsible for the education system themselves do not know how to counter or fight terrorism then why should somebody expect something revolutionary from them in our education system. The time has come when we have to fight on two fronts. One, the people in position and power should demonstrate the will to fight terrorism and should not indulge in useless comments as some of them are habitual of doing and the second step may be to introduce the concepts of such evils in the curriculum in a manner that the children understand the ill effects of such acts and also they should be taught how to face such situations. This should be done in such a manner that the children do not get frightened but take it as another challenge in the life.Though terrorism has become a global phenomenon now but we can not leave our people in the condition of helplessness. Some people may not agree to the concept or the idea of introducing the topic of terrorism in the syllabus. This may not be done in schools but the university and the colleges must include it.There are two possible ways to get rid of this menace of terrorism. One to reduce this by curbing it and the second is by increasing and enhancing the concept of peace.I think both should go together and then only we shall be able to make this country a safe and prosperous place for the people to live.Terrorists should be punished because the fear of punishment or retribution will make them to respect for the law of the country and respect towards society. The concept of letting people do what they are wanting in the name freedom and democracy might create a severe problem and the traces of the same are very much visible even in the present also. The education should be such so that when the children grow, they should  have fear as well as respect for the law.It has been observed that if one child is given freedom of doing something which is harmful to him as well as other children, then this prompts a few more children to do the same because they feel that  if nothing happened to this  child  so they will also be able to get away.Though only punishment may not be the solution but if needed in the larger interest of  the people of the country it should be used. And those people who feel that punishment is absolutely wrong then they should answer why to have police and judiciary in the country? The citizens of the nation need the answer of many such questions.
